/EIN News/ -- CHICAGO, Oct. 22, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MC Squared Energy Services, LLC (mc2), attended Rainy Solar’s dedication event held Thursday, Oct. 17, in Elgin, to celebrate the launch of the first Adjustable Block Program (ABP) community solar project in Illinois. The dedication event was held at the project site, highlighting the photovoltaic solar array. With more than 3,700 panels, the asset is located on top of a 120,000 square foot commercial property and will generate over 1,300,000 kWh’s annually into the grid.

mc2 partnered with the solar developer, Rainy Solar, who’s site was selected in the Illinois ABP lottery administered by the Illinois Power Agency. Rainy’s solar rooftop development was completed prior to the lottery, allowing Rainy to become the first active community solar site in Illinois since the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA) was signed into law in 2017. Under the ABP program, Rainy Solar sells its environmental attributes via Renewable Energy Credit (“RECs”) to meet the state’s clean energy goals under FEJA.

Although the system was installed and completed back in 2018, it wasn’t until summer of 2019 that the solar array become interconnected with ComEd’s distribution system and is now ready to start generating power for subscribers.

mc2 serves as the official subscription manager for Rainy Solar, bringing subscribers, both commercial and residential, to the project. mc2 is the first retail electric supplier in the state of Illinois to work with a solar developer to provide community solar subscriptions. The subscribers, who are primarily defined as “small,” will receive net metering credits against their energy invoices for the prorated share of the energy generated.

“Rainy Solar is excited to work together with mc2 to energize the solar arrays and start providing subscriptions to customers,” said Rainy Solar CEO and entrepreneur, Ken "Bucky" Buckman.

“Community solar is leading the way to help Illinois create a clean energy economy that helps create new jobs and reduces carbon by displacing legacy fossil generating units in the state,” said mc2 founder and president, Chuck Sutton. “We look forward to working with Rainy Solar as this project moves forward and subscribers start reaping the benefits of solar power.”
