    India and Russia have a lot of complementarities and as special and privileged strategic partners both can work on joint projects in India as well as countries in Africa and West Asia.
    India and Russia are moving beyond their traditional areas of cooperation to establish joint ventures in IT software and hardware solutions for domestic use as well as for countries in Africa and West Asia.

    Russia’s Russoft Association of software developers on Monday entered into a formal partnership with its Indian counterpart, Nasscom. The Russoft delegation was in India coinciding with the visit of Russia’s deputy economy minister.

    “Russoft, with its more than 130 members, is keen to form JVs with Indian counterparts to offer solutions in the areas of smart cities, urban transportation including cars and vehicles, unmanned airplanes, artificial intelligence, blockchain and virtual reality,” Russoft Association president Valentin Makarov told ET.

    India and Russia have a lot of complementarities and as special and privileged strategic partners both can work on joint projects in India as well as countries in Africa and West Asia, Makarov said.

    India and Russia are working in the areas of civil nuclear energy and hydrocarbon in Bangladesh and Vietnam respectively.

    The United States is a big market for Russoft Association, Russia’s political tensions with the US notwithstanding. “Russoft is also present in a big way in Western Europe and CIS countries," Makarov said.

    The association is a big player in the Netherlands. “Quantum communication is also emerging as an important area for telemedicine and power sector. India and Russian IT giants can also collaborate in this sector,” he said.

    Russoft Association is not just looking at government-to-government collaboration but is also keen to form private sector Indian IT giants, Makarov said. He said the association can also assist India to enter Eurasian IT market, and that cybersecurity solutions and safeguarding power sector could also be aimed as part of JVs.

    The association has more than 130 members and several new members get associated at every quarterly board meeting. Fourteen Russoft members are listed among the best 100 service providers.

    Russia’s software exports stand at $7.5 billion a year.

    Russia is known to have a range of modern IT-related technologies that are available only with the US and China. These include GLONNAS navigation system, Yandex search engine, Kaspersky operating system, VK social network, Telegram messenger and MIR bank payment system.

    Makarov was speaking to ET on the sidelines of an event in FICCI on Monday where Russian Deputy Minister for Economic Development and top Indian officials were present. FICCI besides NASSCOM is playing a role in Indo-Russian software ventures. NASSCOM on Monday entered into a MoU with Russoft for collaboration. Russian Trade Commission and the Indian government have backed the initiative. The Russoft initiative in India is led by Bee Pitron one of top 50 Russian High Tech firms. Bee Pitron (led by Vadim Kokotov) is establishing its presence in Delhi and initiated the current Russoft mission to India.
