Two contractors to build largest high-voltage transmission line in US history

The Grain Belt Express, an Invenergy project, is an 800-mile-long transmission line that uses high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology. It will span four states – Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.

It will add 5,000 MW of energy delivery capacity and aims to meet growing demand driven by data centres and manufacturing. Phase one, covering Kansas and Missouri, will start construction in 2026.
