He has tackled Aboriginal, environmental, and commercial litigation
Miller Thomson has welcomed litigator Tim Pritchard as a new partner in its Vancouver office, working with the commercial litigation group.
He brings experience in Aboriginal, environmental, and commercial litigation. He advises on environmental assessments. He is also an expert in arbitration and mediation and class actions.
Pritchard served as defence counsel in a major Treaty infringement case associated with cumulative environmental effects. He was also plaintiff’s counsel in a defamation trial that ended with a significant damages award. He has also appeared before regulatory tribunals.
He has resolved complex disputes involving multiple stakeholders and has been part of complicated negotiations birthing comprehensive settlement agreements. He has worked across the energy and natural resources, oil and gas, environment, government, mining, and transportation and logistics sectors.
Pritchard was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 2015. He received his JD from the University of British Columbia in 2013 and clerked at the British Columbia Court of Appeal from 2014 to 2015.
“Tim’s background in Aboriginal and regulatory law, combined with his trial experience in precedent-setting cases, makes him a strong addition to our team. His insights will be invaluable for clients navigating complex legal and regulatory matters,” said Sarah Hansen, who leads Miller Thomson’s litigation practice group in Vancouver, in a statement.
The group has negotiated and drafted impact benefit agreements in the Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador. It has also served as counsel negotiating specific land claims in Alberta and advised provincial governments in relation to comprehensive land claims.
Prichard’s appointment follows that of Daniel Mahler, who joined Miller Thomson in Toronto last month as co-leader of its national real estate transactions and leasing group. The Miller Thomson Vancouver office was launched in 2000 after a merger with local firm Swinton & Company. A year later, Miller Thomson expanded further through a merger with litigation boutique Roberts & Baker.
