ASKED TO CONTACT HARRISBURG POLICE. A FACULTY GROUP AT FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL COLLEGE IN LANCASTER PROTESTED TODAY AGAINST THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION. CHAPTER MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS WALKED OUT TO PROTEST WHAT THEY CLAIM ARE AUTHORITARIAN ATTACKS ON HIGHER EDUCATION. MY HOPE FOR PROFESSOR IS THAT WE RECENTER THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION AND HIGHER EDUCATION. WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE PLACES WHERE IT CAN BE REFORMED, BUT WE THINK THAT WHAT’S GOING ON RIGHT NOW IS A SLEDGEHAMMER APPROACH, AND THAT’S NOT GOING TO RESULT IN IN A HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION SYSTEM IN THE UNITED STATES, IS THE ENVY OF THE WORLD AND ITS COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. AND IN THE LAST 3 OR 4 MONTHS, THAT’S NOW BEING CAST INTO DOUBT. PROFESSORS WANT FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL TO JOIN OTHER COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN LITIGATION AGAINST THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO PROTECT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS. GRADUATE STUDENT

A faculty group at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster protested on Thursday against President Donald Trump and his administration.Chapter members of the American Association of University Professors walked out to protest what they called "authoritarian attacks" on higher education."My hope as a professor is that we recenter the importance of education and higher education," Professor Dennis Deslippe said. "We know there are places where it can be reformed, but we think what is going on right now is a sledge hammer approach and that's not going to result in a high quality education system. And the United States is the envy of the world - its colleges and universities. And in the last three or four months that's being cast into doubt."The professors said they would also like Franklin and Marshall to join other colleges and universities in litigation against the Trump administration to protect international students, graduate students, and faculty on campuses for voicing opinions.
