‘Light’ of America
Dear Editor,
I always look forward to this format offering from The Times Leader.
The “Thank you” letters often published are mostly heartwarming.
To place “Light” on benevolence is needed these days. Years ago, an old neighbor, friend and good man had told me something I’ve always remembered. It was 1978 (I wore a Jimmy Carter sweater), inflation was 20%. I was a steelworker (Yorkville Mill) Wheeling Steel, WPSC, Severstal Steel and RG, LLC (40 years). The cost of living adjustment (COLA) reflected an extra $150.00 a pay (2 weeks). The fixed income of the good man (mentioned), who was a retired fabrication welder for Hanna Coal, was paying 25 percent extra for a loaf of bread. Also, he and his wife’s prescription coverage was modified negatively. Gasoline was not cheap, as he had to drive for cancer treatment(s).
Anyway, the above relates to what he told me, “Sam, I worry if we have another depression, people won’t help others as they did before.”
He told me his parents and his 8 siblings didn’t have much but could give a jelly sandwich to a needy traveler through Bridgeport. Today, they’ll come try and take yours before asking (sad).
So, the Light of America needs to be Clean Coal Fired powerful, as well as Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and all efficient alternatives. I pray the democrat leadership sees the light of a great America again. It seems starting without them.
It also seems as the hate Trump blindness has the local USWA in the darkness of former VP candidate Tim Walz. That is not for the brothers and sisters I recall.
May the God given glory and gift of light shine bright on the blessings of our nation. Jesus is Lord and God raised from the darkness of death.
Happy Easter planet earth.
