Initiative comes hours after Alberta Premier met with incvoming US president in Florida

The initiative was unveiled hours after Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta, Canada’s most important hydrocarbon province, returned from a meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
She had earlier bemoaned that Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — who resigned last week — is now “a lame duck” leader so there is no top federal negotiator in Ottawa to deal with the incoming US administration.
