Two people dead, four others injured following major highway crash on the NSW Mid North Coast near Taree
Two people have been killed and four others rushed to hospital after a Nissan SUV and a Toyota Landcruiser collided on a major NSW highway, sending the first vehicle into the path of a nearby truck.
Two people have been killed and another four taken to hospital after a major highway crash on the NSW Mid North Coast involving three vehicles.
Emergency crews were called to the northbound lane of the M1 near Nabiac, about 30km south of Taree, after the horror collision just before 10am.
A Nissan SUV and a Toyota Landcruiser, which had been towing a caravan, collided into each other before the SUV hit a prime mover truck.
The two occupants of the SUV died at the scene and have not yet been formally identified.
A black chihuahua that was travelling in the car was unharmed and is believed to still be in the area.
The driver and three passengers of the Toyota Landcruiser – a man aged 42, a woman aged 43 and two children aged eight and 9 – were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene and then taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the prime mover was uninjured and was taken to Manning Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
Myall Lakes state Nationals MP Tanya Thompson, whose electorate includes Nabiac, expressed her distress and devastation in a Facebook post.
“Emergency services are responding to a two-car crash on the Pacific Highway near Crokers Rd, Nabiac,” Ms Thompson said.
“Sadly, there have been multiple fatalities confirmed, and other occupants have been transported to hospital.”
Police have established a crime scene and started an investigation into the cause of the incident.
As investigations continue, police are urging commuters with dashcam footage or information regarding the crash to contact Manning-Great Lakes Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police are also requesting the community’s assistance to locate the black chihuahua that answers to the name Armani that fled the scene following the crash.
Live Traffic NSW has warned motorists to expect significant delays and advise that one of the two north and south bound lanes of the Pacific Highway are closed.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible.
