LMPD arrests man accused in multi-state shooting spree

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - An early Tuesday morning commute was delayed after a Jefferson County driver was shot at by a random stranger.

The man, who asked to be anonymous at this time, showed WAVE the damage: bullet holes patched up and bonded.

“It’s surreal to think that one moment you’re peacefully driving to work, enjoying a quiet morning, and the next, your vehicle is riddled with five gunshots out of nowhere,” the man told WAVE in a statement.

The man was driving over the Lewis and Clark Bridge into Indiana, when a small Chevy SUV started following him. He pulled off the first exit and before he knew it his vehicle was hit with bullets at the intersection of River Ridge Parkway and Corporate Drive near the Clark County Government Center.

He says five shots were fired from the driver of the SUV, with three hitting his car. One tire was destroyed, and another bullet would have hit him in the driver seat had it not been stopped by the metal.

LMPD arrested James Jones III after he shot at another driver at the gas station in Louisville. Police confirmed he is the man suspected of Tuesday morning’s shooting in Clark County.

His arrest report is a near copy and paste of the the first victim’s account.

According to the report, the victim in Louisville told police Jones followed him while driving in the area and shot at him once he got into the Valero parking lot.

Police arrested Jones on Bardstown Road after he contacted police. When they found him, Jones admitted to shooting at someone else near Second and York streets, according to the arrets report.

Jones is due back in Jefferson County court on March 28 for the Louisville shooting.

WAVE stopped at the Jeffersonville Police Department to get more information about the Clark County shooting, but they did not provide any citing it as an ongoing investigation.
