ABILENE, Texas — While Congressman Jodey Arrington was in Abilene, he spoke with KTXS about what's happening in Washington with the new budget resolution and how it will affect the people of West Texas.
Rep. Arrington is the Chairman of the House Budget Committee and the House recently passed the federal budget that now goes to the Senate. He said the new budget will make the country stronger, safer, and more prosperous while keeping the people of West Texas in mind.
“Whether it’s border security and resources for our Commander in Chief, for our military readiness, or to lock in tax cuts that have expired since 2017 - which would be about a 22% tax hike on the average family - or it’s rolling back the regulatory assault on oil and gas which is the life blood of our economy, and certainly a big part of our local economy.”
Rep. Arrington said President Donald Trump has already provided law and order to a border that was neglected by past leaders.
“Some of that is getting back to the construction of the border wall, some of that is boots on the ground and technology," he said. "All of it is focused on Americans first. All of it is focused on making sure we have operational control of our border.”
Rep. Arrington also recognized the importance of the agriculture industry in West Texas and said the budget resolution plans to cut the costs for the ag producers.
“Stopping this spending will help bring prices down for everybody. Stopping the assault, the whole of government attack on oil and gas will bring the fuel input cost for our farmers.”
