New research carried out by energy experts reveals what your most expensive household appliances are, and how to save cash while using them.

The data from BOXT, a boiler company, shows electricity bills have been increasing by 10% every year for the last 10 years.

This means an average household could see their bills rise by over £3,000 a year, which makes these energy saving tips more crucial than ever.

The experts found that by making some small changes, cash strapped punters can save money this spring even after the government stops handing out energy bill rebates.

The easiest mistake to make in the bathroom is leaving the shower running while shampooing your hair.

Experts claim taking a 10 minute shower with electric heating could cost you 50p per day.

One way to look after the pennies so you save the pounds is turning the heat down, and switching the water off when you are using soap.

This way you are only paying to heat the essential water for rinsing off.

Other tips to stop splashing the cash on household appliances include not using a tumble dryer.

While the machines are handy, they cost £1.80 per cycle.

Hanging clothes over a heater if you need them to dry quickly will save money for essentials.

Draping a towel over the top of your drying rack can also trap the heat and help your garments dry quicker.

The energy experts also advise not doing a load of laundry until the washing machine is full, as a cycle costs £1.10.

Running shorter cycles at lower temperatures can also save cash.
