Biofuel groups call on EPA to follow through on proposed SRE denial

Supporters of biofuels suggest EPA has a straightforward decision to make on outstanding small refinery exemption requests.

Iowa Renewable Fuels Association executive director Monte Shaw tells Brownfield the agency should deny the petitions.

“These things are not justified. The ones that were granted under the Trump administration were quite frankly illegal according to the 10th Circuit Court, and we would agree with the EPA’s proposal to apply that ruling and its standards to all SRE evaluations.”

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says ACE strongly supports EPA’s proposed decision because the petitioning refineries do not face disproportionate economic hardship caused by compliance with their RFS obligations.

National Corn Growers Association president Chris Edgington, who farms in north-central Iowa, says EPA’s proposal to deny pending waivers offers a path forward and NCGA urges the agency to make it final.
