European Commission sees EU biofuel consumption peaking in 2023

In Belgium, Reuters reports the European Commission’s 2021-2031 Agricultural Outlook estimates that by 2031 European biofuel consumption will fall 24% to 14.3 billion liters with palm oil imports sinking to 4 million metric tons from 6.5 million tons this year. The Commission estimates biofuel consumption will peak in 2023 at 18.9 billion liters and begin falling afterwards. Ethanol consumption is only expected to fall 10% by 2031 to 6.4 billion liters after reaching a peak of 7.1 billion liters due to ethanol’s use in non-fuel sectors.
