F1 rivals see new biofuel engines not ready until 2026

July 8, 2021 |

In the UK, Global Motorsports Media reports that rival F1 teams Red Bull and Mercedes both believe that in order to achieve F1’s biofuel engine goals, they will need until 2026 to be successful rather than the original 2025 deadline. The idea is to build a new engine model completely from scratch that will not only run on biofuel but also achieve strict environmental goals while maintaining high performance. Motorsports have often led the way for passenger vehicles later when it comes to technology development.
