Farmington residents need not be concerned about a loud noise coming from the Northern Natural Gas station Wednesday morning.
The company plans to test its emergency shutdown system at the compressor station located at 4685 212th Street West.
The test, which starts at 9 a.m., will last about three minutes and will be loud, as gas is vented from the system.
The natural gas is lighter than air and will rise and dissipate quickly, causing no threat to public health or safety.
The annual testing is required by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and allows Northern to confirm that the system is operating properly.
