Stella Wind Farm is a 201-megawatt wind energy facility that spans 23,000 acres along tidal estuaries and associated ranch land along the Gulf of Mexico. Challenges included the site’s remote location as well as tidal fluctuations, which affected excavation of the 10-ft-deep foundations. A month of heavy rain also forced the project team to pump more than 17 million gallons of water away in order to keep the foundations dry. Crews also had to contend with limited connectivity and a steady stream of wildlife, including rattlesnakes and copperheads.

Stella Wind Farm now supplies enough clean energy to power more than 60,000 homes annually.
