Chabad House a unique blend of love and hatred: Netanyahu

The Chabad House is a unique blend of love and hatred towards the people of Israel, the country’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said on Thursday. He was addressing people at the Chabad House, or the Nariman House, after meeting 11-year-old Moshe Holtzberg. “This place is a unique merge between love for Israeli people and the hatred towards the people of Israel. The nation of Israel is known for salvation,” Netanyahu told the gathering in Hebrew. The Israeli prime minister thanked Moshe for hosting him and showing him his room in the Chabad House. “Your parents showed love to the people and welcomed all to this house. They provided for every Jew a home. This is loving Israel but terrorists showed hatred towards Israel,” he said. Netanyahu said the terrorists could not harm Moshe because of the love shown by his nanny. “In the past, the Jewish people have witnessed a lot of challenges but with the help of God they overcame everything. The people of Israel are living and will live forever,” he said. (PTI)

Netanyahu credits conscription for better innovation in Israel

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday credited conscription for his country’s ability to innovate, saying compulsory military service provided “real education” to people. “You may think our genius is the result of our education system possibly. I don’t think it is (the) best. But our real educational system is in the Army,” Netanyahu said, addressing the India-Israel Business Summit. “We bring in a whole chunk of our population into the Army, we give them tests and we then allow them to rush into these technological schools by the time they are out of the Army at the age of 21 or 22,” he said. They acquire an enormous amount of experience and knowledge and can start their own business, Netanyahu said. “This talent has been existing in Israel for long, but we could not get anywhere. Why couldn’t we get anywhere? We were limited by bureaucracy,” the Israeli leader said. (PTI)

Israel’s PM says India reconsidering shelved missile deal

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted late Wednesday that following his talks with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian government informed the Israeli side that it’s putting the deal with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd back on the track. “This is very important for us and there will be many more deals,” he said, without giving details.Israel is India’s third-largest supplier of weapons after the United States and Russia. Last year, Israel’s state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries announced over $2 billion in air and missile-defense contracts with India. Netanyahu to meet Jewish community today

Israeli PM Netanyahu will also lay a wreath at the memorial for the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks later today. He will then proceed to the nearby Nariman House, where he will meet 11-year-old Moshe Holtzberg. Moshe’s father Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and mother Rivka were killed at the Nariman House during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The Jewish couple ran a cultural and outreach centre for the Chabad-Lubavitch movement at the Nariman House in south Mumbai’s Colaba area. Netanyahu will later meet around 25 to 30 members of the Jewish community at the Taj hotel. There are about 5,000 members of the Jewish community living in India, but most of them call Mumbai their home. The city earlier had a sizable Jewish population, but around 33,000 Jews migrated when Israel was created. Mumbai has three distinct Jewish communities—Bene Israel Jews, Baghdadi Jews and the Malabar Jews. For them, the visit by the Israeli prime minister is about reconnecting with old friends and strengthening old bonds. (PTI)
